The way to yow is enter options, return to desktop whereby your be presented with a window thats making sure your want to do this. Now within the window it will tell you the last time the game was saved. If the game isnt saved yet then dying is probably the way forward to get one.
Dont worry, like dark souls you can return to the scene of the death and retrieve what you had last time. So i have to play like further than 15 mins to get a save point?

When I was starting out on my main save, save beacons were learned automatically at a very early stage of the game, while save points had to be researched specifically.
